U.S.A., Inc. Job Title: Technical Marketing Engineer – Optical
Components Location: San Jose, CA (Bay Area) Job Summary We are
seeking a Technical Marketing Engineer with strong optical
component or system expertise to support our major customers, guide
market adoption of our semiconductor laser portfolio, and help
define the future of Sumitomo Electric’s photonics product
strategy. Position Summary The Technical Marketing Engineer will
serve as a key technical and strategic bridge between our product
engineering teams and our largest telecom/datacom customers. Duties
include communicating product capabilities, gathering market
requirements, understanding customer applications in depth, and
helping drive design wins for advanced optical transceivers and
related photonic systems. This role combines engineering depth with
market awareness, customer interaction, and cross functional
coordination with the product line in Japan. Responsibilities •Act
as the primary technical marketing resource for major accounts
integrating Sumitomo Electric’s semiconductor lasers into optical
transceivers and photonics modules. •Develop and present technical
product positioning, competitive analysis, and application guidance
for high-speed optical communication semiconductor devices.
•Support customer design in efforts by supporting information
requests on current products and understanding customer needs to
develop next generation products. •Collaborate with R&D,
product engineering, and global product management teams to align
roadmaps with customer and industry direction. •Participate in
customer meetings, industry events, and standards discussions as
needed. •Assist in competitive landscape evaluations and market
messaging development. Required Qualifications •Bachelor’s or
Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Physics (or closely
related field). •Hands on experience designing optical or photonic
systems or subsystems, subsystems. •Ability to evaluate
optical/electrical performance data and translate technical details
into clear customer facing insights. •Excellent communication,
presentation, and technical writing skills. •Comfortable engaging
directly with customers and cross functional internal teams.
Preferred Qualifications •Experience with DFB, EML, VCSEL, tunable
lasers, PICs, or related optoelectronic devices. •Familiarity with
telecom/datacom module formats (QSFP, OSFP, etc.) and high-speed
link standards. •Prior experience in technical marketing,
applications engineering, or product management. Salary and
Benefits The base salary range for this position is $180-200k plus
bonus Compensation may vary depending on several factors, including
a candidate’s experience, qualifications, skills, competencies and
location. Base pay is one part of the total compensation and
benefits package that is provided to compensate and recognize
employees for their work, and this role may be eligible for
